A Line Stage pre-amplifier needs to offer the facility to select between differentsources, to provide some means of attenuating the chosen source and then deliver itin an uncorrupted form to the power amplifier.

The L5 has 4 inputs and twin outputs. The circuit utilizes a pair of 6n3 (5670) doubletriode valves to apply some gain & retain a low output impedance. Attenuation is viaa high quality motorised potentiometer which allows for remote control of the listeninglevel & the option to mute the output via a remote handset.In the L5, source selection is via a high quality switch.

The output stage of the L5 isimpervious to long interconnecting cables or lower impedance power amplifier inputstages.

The L5 also incorporates an extremely sophisticated power supply to maintainconstant operating conditions for the audio circuitry.

The HT supply is split into twoseparately filtered rails while the filament supplies are also DC to maintain low noiseperformance.

The L5 preserves the verve and energy in recordings that almost all pre-amplifiersand passive volume controls otherwise lose. It does this without sacrificingtransparency or introducing euphonic colouration to the sound.When partnered with appropriate ancillary equipment the L5 is capable of verysatisfying performance.
